Welcome, dear friends, to 2009 Kyrgyzstan 50 MHz DXpedition website!

The purpose of this website is to keep you informed about aspects related to our planned activity from the shore of beautiful Issyk-Kul lake. As you may already know our primary goal is to give an opportunity for 6m band enthusiasts to work EX8 land via EME. For this reason we picked to go to Issyk-Kul as one of the best places in Central Asia for both holiday leisure and ham radio operation.

According to our preliminary plans, we should be arriving to our QTH located on the southern shore of the lake, Tossor village, on August 15, 2009. It's likely to take us about 2-3 hours to set up our antenna and arrange a radio shack. Then we can go online and start running EME.

It was announced earlier that we will commence our DXpedition operation on Saturday, August 15. After additional consideration we came to conclusion that this may not be the case. The reason may be our weariness after having to spend on the road almost the whole day. We can start work on Sat, Aug 15 provided we get to our QTH at least by 5pm local Kyrgyz time which will give us enough daylight to work in. We figure it will take us about 2 hours to errect the antenna and make necessary adjustments. So at this point, we may not be on the band as initially planned.

Anyway we will start working on the antenna on Sunday, August 16 from the early morning and will be fully set to run EME starting from 06.10 UTC.

Operating procedures

PDFPrintE-mail

Written by Administrator Wednesday, 22 July 2009 11:35

While operating from the Issyk-Kul lake QTH we will use the following procedures:

1) Callsigns. We will use both callsigns during our operation - EX8MLT and EX7MW. Current operator will be announced through Twitter or on ON4KST webchat page at any particular time.

2) SKEDs. We will avoid SKEDs whenever possible. We will be calling CQ in first sequence always in JT65A mode.

3) Frequency. Priliminary plan is to use 50,200 kHz as our main operating frequency. This is subject to local QRN/QRM conditions. If the primary operating frequency will be changed, we will announce it by all available means.

4) Online communication. Most likely we will be available for online Internet based chat from the DXpedition site. We will be active on MSN as This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it , ICQ as 29400140, Yahoo as mchirkov and on Skype as mchirkov as well as on ON4KST site as EX7MW. In case if we loose Internet connection, we can be reached by sending text messages to our cellular phones. The exact cell phone numbers will be announced later.

5) Antenna elevation. We will use antenna elevation when the Moon is 20 degrees and above. However we will use no elevation to ensure ground gain as much as possible. This should give us very good windows for no-elevation stations (like those with single Yagi) in North America.

6) Start of operation. We will commence our operation on Saturday, August 15 at 18:40 UTC.

7) Calling us. If you hear us, please call us spreading  out every 200 Hz so we can easily decode you without QRM. If you are seeing our trace at a particular time, please call us with your callsign and OOO signal reports. That way we will know that you are calling and will quickly respond. Try to avoid using frequencies +/- 200 Hz from our calling  frequency since they most likely will be occupied by some other station calling us. Spread out - don't spare the spectrum!

8) Completing QSOs. Please send us 73 when you receive our final RRR so that we know we can begin answering the next station or return to calling CQ.
